The History of Puppetry

September 29th, 2008 by Fairlight

The history of our pawpet show is rather easy to trace: It all started at Eurofurence 6, born like so many other things in the year 2000. (Which means, actually, that at Eurofurence 15 in 2009, we’ll have our 10th show!)

But, of cause, puppetry is far older than our show. In the furry fandom, the USA was there first. People like Steve Plunkett (aka Tiresta) and Teddy Ruxpin (the Furry, not the animatronic bear) had a huge influence there as well as the Funday Pawpet Show that started in 1999.

Outside the fandom, puppetry has a really long history, mostly going back to China and India. Rod and shadow puppeteering seem to among the first forms of this art. Some more information on puppet history can be found on King’s World.

Today a long time ago….

September 24th, 2008 by Lynard

Today, a long time ago – 1936 to be accurate, someone was born whom I consider having a great influence in my life. Though as I saw his work the first time I didn’t really expect nor estimate what influence it will have on me years later. With happiness I remember the saturday afternoons, when I watched the Muppet Show with my family. Today, 24th September 1936, James Maury ‚Jim‘ Henson was born in Greenville.

EF14 Show Impression

September 22nd, 2008 by o'wolf

My parents sent me the following picture, taken by my father:

A snapshot of the last scene of Dreamcatchers

It is a bit hard to recognize due to the long exposure time and the noise, but I think it catches the atmosphere of the scene very well.

The Art of Genital Origami

September 21st, 2008 by Fairlight

“WHAT!?” I hear you say, and you are right.

Last night I contacted my good old friend google and asked him to spit out all he knows about puppetry, and, strangely enough, one of the first hits I got was Puppetry of the Penis, a show by a bunch of barking mad (but well hung) australians who apparently can do to their privates what street artists can do to balloons.

I bet if Poke would ever get to see a puppet show, that’d be it!

A Ferret’s Rant: Boobs or Blackies?

September 17th, 2008 by Poke

Hey there fuzzyfolk!

Time for me to write down a few thaughts of mine again.

This time it’s about The 2008 Presidential Election.

I normally am not into politics, but when it comes to decisions of such severity, I think even I should have a good think about what’s going to happen, else we’ll end up fucked. And while I usually don’t object to that, there’s limits to what I can take. Me, I draw the line at governments.

So, here’s my take on what’s going on and what’s going wrong with this.

Where do they study?

September 16th, 2008 by Fairlight
Did you ever ask yourself where exactly our four heroes spend their campus life? Where that Dormitory of Lionel Scritchie’s actually is located?

I know I did. Today, actually.

So I started to dig for some more information about Universities in Kansas, where our main stars are located, according to the Eurofurence 7 Show.

And guess what? I found out where they study!

Mascot

University of Kansas

And, what’s even better, they even got a psychology department! That must be where Poke used to study before he started his second career.

What still remains uncertain, however, is what Lionel, Mika and Lori are studying there.

Why not have a guess in the comments?

A Ferret’s Rant: Creationism

September 15th, 2008 by Poke

Hey there fuzzyfolk!

This is Poke, your resident Ferret, proving to you that these paws can do more than just groping (or cooking, but Shhh! Keep that quiet! )

While sitting here at the campus, lost in my studies, a friend of mine sent me this glorious link which I would love to share with you:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7613403.stm

Now, beeing the curious animal I am, I just had to click it. (The fact that in my email client unread links tend to be red had nothing to do with it! I swear!) And what did I get? Creationism!

I mean, no offence, everyone can have their beliefs, but.. CREATIONISM!?

Martial Arts Puppetry

September 12th, 2008 by Fairlight

Now I have seen quite a bit of puppetry in my life, but this one must score a straight “A” on the awesomeness scale.

Not that I can decipher any of the comments or descriptions regarding this piece of art, what with it beeing chinese or japanese, mind you, but I am quite positive that everyone watching it was quite impressed.

Have a look for yourself!
