The History of PuppetrySeptember 29th, 2008 by Fairlight |
The history of our pawpet show is rather easy to trace: It all started at Eurofurence 6, born like so many other things in the year 2000. (Which means, actually, that at Eurofurence 15 in 2009, we’ll have our 10th show!)
But, of cause, puppetry is far older than our show. In the furry fandom, the USA was there first. People like Steve Plunkett (aka Tiresta) and Teddy Ruxpin (the Furry, not the animatronic bear) had a huge influence there as well as the Funday Pawpet Show that started in 1999.
Outside the fandom, puppetry has a really long history, mostly going back to China and India. Rod and shadow puppeteering seem to among the first forms of this art. Some more information on puppet history can be found on King’s World.
